Lesson 2 – Second Verse in E Major
In this second lesson, we’ll move on to the second verse of "Romance", which brings a subtle shift in emotion through its modulation to E major.
Just like in the first lesson, we’ll begin by carefully breaking down the melody with the right hand, focusing on precise fingering to ensure comfort and fluidity. Then, we’ll explore accompaniment options for the left hand, starting with a simple, accessible version and gradually introducing more refined and technical patterns for those who wish to enrich their interpretation.
This major section offers a beautiful contrast and adds a sense of light and resolution to the piece. It’s a perfect opportunity to further develop your touch, control, and emotional expression at the piano.
Let’s dive in and bring out the full depth of this timeless music.
Melody

Here, I've wrote the simple chords instead of the complex chords used in the original score. So it's easier to recognize the root note.
Patterns
Level 1
Play the root note ( for now, don't pay attention to "m" or "7" )
Level 2
If you try to play simple blocked chords for this verse — as we did in the previous section — the result will likely sound dissonant.
To make it work musically, you'd need to use more complex chord voicings, which makes this pattern more advancedthan even Pattern 4.
For that reason, I don’t recommend using blocked chords here, unless you're comfortable with extended harmonies.
Instead, a simple and effective alternative is to play just the root and the fifth.
Level 3
Skip this pattern, Level 4 is easier.
Level 4
This pattern follows the same structure as in the first verse: a deep bass note in the left hand, and the chord tones layered with the melody in the right hand.
However, since the chords in this section are more complex, I’ve included the full sheet music for this verse to guide you more precisely.
